Airports in the Aena network handled more than 22.3 million passengers in May, 7.4% more than in the same month last year.
A total of 22,378,214 passengers passed through the Aena airport network in May. Of these, 16,101,748 were people on international flights and 6,211,738 on domestic flights.
As for the number of passengers, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport accumulates the highest number of travelers, with 4,525,608, representing a 5.4% increase, followed by Barcelona-El Prat airport with 4,325,970 customers; followed by Palma Airport, in Mallorca, with 3,037,128 passengers; Alicante-Elche Airport registers 1,288,038 passengers and other airports, such Málaga Costa del Sol airport, with 1.809.418; Gran Canaria -with 896,883-, Ibiza -with 825,016- and Tenerife South with 803,804 travelers.
In the first five months of the year, passenger traffic in the Aena airport network grew by 8.9%, with a total of 88,859,538 passengers.
As for the number of operations, Aena’s network handled a total of 197,058 aircraft movements in May, in a breakdown Madrid-Barajas airport with a total of 33,797 flights (+2.3%), followed by Barcelona-El Prat airport with 30,087 (+5.9%), Palma de Mallorca with 22,102 (+3.9%), Málaga-Costa del Sol with 13,146 (+11.3%), Alicante-Elche with 9,030 (+13.7%).
A total of 75,294 tons of cargo was transported this May, and as a whole, 353,490 tons were transported from January to May, 12.3% more than in the same months in 2016. The four airports with the most cargo traffic were Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with 38,521 tons, Barcelona-El Prat with 13,102 tons , Zaragoza with 10,489 tons and Vitoria with 5,106 tons.
